Il Bacio di Tosca plot
At the end of their lives, opera composer Giuseppe Verdi and his wife Giuseppina Strepponi decided to found a home for retired musicians. With this they wanted to ensure a good old age for the musicians who had been so important to Verdi's operas and who, after the end of their careers, were often less fortunate than Verdi himself. Moreover, for Verdi it was a way of providing a dignified home for his legacy of books, letters, paintings, etc. The composer himself carefully supervised the construction and furnishing of the home set up in Milan, the northern Italian city of the Teatro alla Scala, the opera temple where Verdi's operas celebrated their greatest triumphs.
