A film crew arrives at a remote Texas ranch to shoot a pornographic film. Their hosts, a reclusive elderly couple, have a special interest in their young guests. As night falls, the couple's interest takes a violent turn.

Texas chainsaw massacre meets Boogie Nights
Hell yes Ti West with a new Horror movie!
Thirteen years ago, he came up with The House of the Devil, one of the best, scariest horror I'd seen in a long time.
Like that film, X is also an ode to slasher films from the 70s/80s. Fantastically filmed with great composition. Crocodile scene that few will talk about was really great. West really knows how to build tension. What you see a lot in contemporary horror (especially American ones) is a lot of scares, with sound, which can sometimes work, but too often isn't good. With an excellent arm he knows how to give you the shivers without clichés, as they used to do.
The actors are well cast, have good character development, do very few stupid actions. The few porn scenes come across as realistic and old school. The oldies are really well cast, especially the sexual frustrated woman and great make-up effect.And the gore is lovely Ti,make more Horror films, please!

Ti West does it again.
Just like with House of the Devil, he goes back to the roots of the 70s. In this case the last year of those decades. Perhaps not such a superfluous choice at all because in that period porn films became more and more accessible. We follow such a group of young people who are in the branch and have been given a location where they can record their sessions on film. Along the way they encounter a dismembered cow that has been scooped up by a truck and once on the property they find out that this is a barn on the estate of an over-aged farmer's couple.
In the beginning, however, X doesn't seem to be that exciting. It flows along like most slasher movies and you also know exactly how it's going to end... Eeehm... yes and no...
Ti West knows how to make a very well-worn horror story with a very small new element quite touching and interesting... even in an absurdist way. As a viewer you already know what that old couple is planning. But it is just a bit more than that.
So young and so clean the actors are. And then play and experiment with the pornographic sessions in the barn. And that while the bitter old woman knows that she can no longer be a part of these horny adventures... and that again to the shame of her husband. The jealousy bubbles up. They are young, they are old. They are sexy and they are worn out, wrinkled and unattractive. And they don't take that. They want revenge. Brutal Revenge!
And then it goes wild, you have your full attention again and you can conclude that the film is excellent after all. And the gore-lover doesn't come short.
And then the twist at the end. Very nice.
Yes, this was another very nice slasher movie that winks at TCM. Standard but also quite original in some cases.
