Wolf Man plot

Blake, a San Francisco husband and father, inherits his remote family home in rural Oregon after his own father disappears and is presumed dead. His marriage to his ambitious wife Charlotte is on the rocks. Blake convinces Charlotte to escape the city and visit the estate with their young daughter, Ginger. But as the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they are attacked by an unseen animal and in a desperate escape they barricade themselves inside the house as the creature scans the area. As the night wears on, however, Blake begins to behave strangely and transform into something unrecognizable. Charlotte will have to decide if the terror inside their home is more deadly than the danger outside.

Wolf Man is after Nosferatu a second classic monster film adaptation in a month. Nosferatu is clearly the better film. Especially because there is a personal vision behind it with Robert Eggers. Leigh Whanell has mainly made a splash behind the scenes and after the Invisible Man (which I found oppressive) this is his second film as a director. What is striking is that he makes good use of the atmospheric and wooded environment. This also feels really oppressive with occasionally very beautiful shots.

However, it never really gets scary and it focuses mainly on the drama of the main characters. For horror film standards this works fine and some elements (between father and daughter) work very well. I think it's a shame that you are not on the edge of your seat, because there is a lot of potential in many scenes and that is not always used well.

Still, it never gets bad and there are nice perspective changes and the monster make up looks nice and gross. This mainly adds a lot to the realization that the film is not a cgi party.

Not a super exciting film, but one that is entertaining enough to remain captivating from beginning to end.

Wolfman

I hear this is supposed to be a remake of the 1st wolfman from 1941, well I've seen it, and this doesn't look like it at all, I think it's more like a remake of another kind of film. In itself a fine film with some tension and a few interesting scenes, but the unknown actors didn't do much for me so I didn't really care what happened to them, you can also see a lot of things coming. Then they've handled the new nosferatu well.

High-quality, but slightly disappointing new horror film by director Leigh Whannell. From his hand we can welcome a modern reworking of an old story, which makes Wolf Man not exactly in keeping with the material from the 1940s. The mixture of drama and horror elements works very well, although the emotional side comes across much better than the horror. Whannell surprisingly doesn't manage to make it very exciting (apart from a few well-placed jump scares) and despite the neat visuals the film feels somewhat reserved and tame in general. Nevertheless, the wooded environment is used excellently, the make-up looks fantastic and the acting is of a high standard. However, you would expect a bit more from a name like Whannell.
