"When the cat's away, the rats will play."

After the death of his mother, it is doubly sad that the ties with the family business are permanently severed. He is blown away when one of his favorite rats, Socrates, is killed. He collects an 'army' of rats and wants revenge....

I can't really call this horror, it looks more like a black comedy. That is what is most satisfying. It's all pretty bizarre what's happening, the great mouse revolt is entertaining, Glover and R. Lee Ermey are nice extravagant characters who also adorn the film nicely. The mice are also convincingly depicted, although Big Ben could have looked a bit scarier The idea behind this rebellious mouse is genius.

Unfortunately, the horror part is quite disappointing and the crazy premise is not always used that much. It could have just been a little crazier as far as I'm concerned. Now it is nowhere really exciting or do you have the feeling that you are watching a memorable film.

Nice, nothing more.

3*

Special case. It feels like a comedy at times, but not quite. It sometimes feels like a horror, but just not. Glover is allowed to walk through the film like crazy, but I wasn't crazy about it. The atmosphere is gothic like in Tim Burton movies someone here wittily remarked, and again just not enough to leave a mark in the memory. The story could come straight out of a comic strip like Creepshow. That's also the whole problem : as a short story of half an hour this would have been fine. Very mediocre.

Atmospheric horror film by Glen Morgan. Two days ago I also saw Black Christmas from him, which was a lot less.. Because this Willard .. there are few horrors of this level.
So atmospheric, such acting. Every role fits the actor perfectly, Crispin Glover plays great as Willard, R. Lee Ermey does a great job as Mr. Martin...

The film builds up nice and slowly, but the atmosphere is already great in the intro, partly due to the fantastic and especially matching soundtrack, great use of this by the director who has shown some fantastic scenes, especially in the first hour. by the respective soundtrack.
As I said, the acting is great, but the highlight is really the rats themselves, man, man, man those things are wonderfully portrayed at times, especially towards the end when they get more and more , the climax that follows at the end, partly due to the large amount rats, is great to see. The special effects are also good and the atmosphere in the film does not slacken towards the end.

All in all, just a horror film that I would like to review again, wonderfully filmed, very atmospheric, very good acting, a fantastic soundtrack... What more could you want? I wouldn't know, but still I can't give Willard more than 4 stars.
