The Day of the Triffids plot

"Beware the triffids... they grow... know... walk... talk... stalk... and kill!"

A meteor shower causes 99% of the population to go blind. The resulting chaos allows the Triffids to escape. Triffids are experimental plants that are capable of moving around on their own and attacking humans. Bill Masen was in hospital during the meteor shower after eye surgery and is therefore one of the few who still sees.
