A bit childish Stephen King film adaptation, roughly comparable to Sometimes They Come Back. Pretty entertaining for the time it lasts, but not very memorable. Nice snack.

Mediocre.

Sleepwalkers is a very typical example of a 90s movie that really wants to be in the 80s. There's nothing wrong with that by definition, but I thought it was very clear. In any case, it produces some nice images that brighten up the film a bit, but otherwise I didn't find it too special.

Interesting that this is based on a story by King. I think that with this film they have largely ignored the story, neglected it or King simply wrote a bad story. This film can be called a weak film on the content level. A very simple story is worked out in the easiest way.

There are also a lot of cheesy effects and some practical moments of gore. Those moments sometimes manage to keep the film above water, otherwise I found this film fairly simple and not in an advantageous way. Despite the fact that the story continues at a reasonable pace, the characters are never interesting and the characters that it should come from are completely neglected.

Furthermore, it is recorded fairly simply and for a story that tries to do something, sometimes it is all fairly lifeless. What I especially regretted, however, is that the film seems to be very short, while the concept asks for much more. So it seems as if the film was only going for mediocre entertainment and stuck with it. The nagging voice that preaches beneath those layers for more meanings and intelligence is therefore ignored.

It is a smooth film, but does little innovative and works towards a fairly unsatisfactory finale. The acting is seriously bad and the chemistry between Krause and Amick never gets off the ground, and is also just rushed. Clumsy, lifeless film that entertains but does not convince. A lesser King film adaptation.

Piece of childhood sentiment I once had on double vhs together with The Dark Half. The latter was what I was buying at the time, about 20 years ago, but Sleepwalkers was far from an annoying film.

Like so many productions with a Stephen King background, it is sort of a sum of three factors. Usually they are not the largest or most expensive production, the quality is also influenced by the era and technique of that time and you have to have a solid story. I think factors that you should keep an eye out for, otherwise it is better to leave a bit of King filming. The level, on the other hand, has risen slightly in recent years, but that is mainly due to the advancing technology, renowned directors sometimes want to do a King and because more money is invested. Sleepwalkers is such a typical product where the techniques are not yet great, the cast is fairly unknown and you have to be a fan of such stories.

Krige and Krause are excellent as screwed up son and mother who are after the beautiful Amick. The atmosphere is there, a bit of humor, Gore and the not so successful special effects that give films from that time a certain sjeu and gun factor. The combination with the atmospheric music of Enya is beautiful, by the way, something that I find special for once.

Funny are the many cameos, including King himself and short roles by Ron Perlman, for example, who was still fairly unknown at the time. And as a real cat lover, I find all or four legs, and how they respond to evil, downright precious. The Trans Am is nice, the rest of the music too and again Madchen Amick, that is still a beautiful woman. It is clear that Sleepwalkers can't do much wrong with me, which is partly determined by nostalgia. Just nice for once and for me one from the King collection that deserves a sufficient.
