Jesus what a sad horror this was. The story was well thought out, but the execution was just awful. It doesn't get exciting and captivating anywhere and both protagonists, Stuart Townsend and Aaliyah, couldn't convince anywhere, especially not the last one. Thanks to the music, the film can still be viewed a little, but not really much.

Funny. Clearly a vampire movie that sits in a gray area between Blade and Twilight. That makes it a wonderfully cheesy, uncomfortable image of a genre that was looking for new formulas, but couldn't find it yet. Queen of the Damned will indeed have been especially popular among the (younger) ladies, with a Townsend playing the stoic bad boy. These kind of young adult, romanticized horror/vampire movies are rarely my thing, but as early 2000's pulp I could still have it surprisingly good. The times where goths and the like were still relevant subcultures (and profitable in horror) are behind us for a while, but that's why it's all the more fun to go back to these kind of strange works.

Cheesy vampires.

A movie you might expect from MTV or something. Vampires and goth/nu-metal crossover, with an Anne Rice character who suddenly turns into a rock star. It really doesn't make sense at all, but that's what makes it a bit watchable.

Other than that, there isn't much to do. It was Aaliyah's last film I believe, but she barely appears in it. The acting is also not very good, the effects look cheap and directing is tame. And then, of course, there's that plot, a mishmash of storylines that don't really go anywhere.

The cheese makes it look somewhat easy, but that's about it. You don't have to expect a lot of quality here. I'm definitely not an Interview with the Vampire fan, but I can imagine that fans of that movie (and Rice's books) were seriously disappointed with this movie

1.5*
