Too ordinary.

It is not easy to do something fun with the zombie genre. There have been all kinds of variations from blockbusters to small arthouse dramas. This one seems to lean mainly towards arthouse drama. Despite not shying away from some quick zombies and headshots. Yet it does not know enough to develop its own face. In these times when you have to stay at home, it didn't seem that difficult to me to get something out of this. But the film failed to find the right balance between poetry, drama, action and survival. What remains is a nobody who doesn't have the courage to get completely involved in anything.

2.5 stars.

Drummer Sam reluctantly attends his ex-girlfriend's [Sigrid Bouaziz] party to pick up some of his stuff, including a few tapes. While he is busy in his room, the other partygoers mysteriously die. In fact, Paris seems to have been taken over by flesh-eating zombies. Sam barricades himself in the apartment complex and has to do his best to survive and fight against boredom. Based on the book of the same name by Pit Amargen, who looked closely at Romero's original Living Dead trilogy and adopted the necessary ideas from it. Fortunately, there are plenty of original ideas (including Sam's creative attempts at making music) and it's refreshing to see another zombie movie that's about the character and not endless bloodshed.

Anders Danielsen Lie's strong leading role and the few horror moments in between ensure that this zombie film by director Dominique Rocher remains continuously fascinating, because I honestly didn't think the psychological elements were that strong. Lie plays with enough convincing emotion to somewhat convey the lonely effect, but Rocher's direction contributes little to this. The images of how everyday life continues with the zombie plague on the sidewalk are not convincing and make a rather simple impression, in my opinion not exactly something you should rely on within a concept like this. I was also not a fan of the final ending, especially because it is an unsatisfactory conclusion to the events that Lie has to deal with. The atmospheric images are above average and the deserted French streets have something unique about them, but all in all it doesn't make enough of a lasting impression to receive a higher grade.
