The 1978 original by John Carpenter unfortunately didn't entertain me to the fullest and, to be honest, I personally didn't find it very interesting or good. Luckily I was still curious about the other parts in the Halloween series, because the original got a lot of sequels.

From that came (for others the worst) part 3 which I really liked together with the fourth part of the series and so I stopped after watching the sixth part

With my viewing experience on the Halloween series from 1978, I'm happy to finally have seen the remake, because what would be very predictable is that there would be a big difference between them. That difference already starts with the director, Rob Zombie, directing the remake. You are immediately dealing with a modern director who (as you can see in the film) has a completely different view of the horror genre and making films.

Let's ignore the years difference, but keep in mind that the equipment, budget and setting are of different quality

My personal opinion of four stars is also about different details in this film, for example Rob Zombie creates a bloody (exciting) atmosphere in the first hour with a completely different take on the main character 'Michael Myers' from the Halloween story.

This first hour (I think) will amaze viewers about the filming of the story and the twists in it, but especially the background of the story.

Once past this masterful hour, the story takes its final hour to fill up with quite a few kills and chases.

The impression is already a bit off, but luckily the film keeps its strong details such as sharp camera work, atmosphere and acting in its grip until the end.

Just like these strong details, it was still entertaining for me personally and at times I was pretty stuck in my chair due to tension sweat

4.0*

A nice horror film and a remake of the original Halloween (1978) - MovieMeter.nl, the one we're going to watch tonight. (after the border of twilight and darkness )

This "Halloween" was nice as said but we had to drag ourselves through the last quarter of the movie, that girl who doesn't shoot that Michael and just keeps on crying and screaming and sobbing.

Annoying and somehow illogical, you are being fatally threatened and you do nothing? Maybe a weak character or not being able to think anymore. I expect some input from the director and Zombie is a bit disappointing here. So in my opinion the film could have been shorter and more concise.

For the whole (great film shots with good lighting, the performances of the crew and the story) a 7-.

A remake of part 1 of the Halloween film series, so all other parts are thrown overboard again and we start all over again. We are presented with the background of Michael Myers in a new way, gone is the satanic cult and instead we get a very unexemplary family and bullied at school. Not bad, but it does take a long time. And once we get to see the grown-up Myers, the look has changed so much that it no longer resembles the original. A six-foot guy with long greasy hair and masks that appear to have been made in kindergarten. The whole film is just unpleasant to watch, there is a very negative atmosphere. And the actress who plays Laurie makes you long for a young Jamie Lee Curtis. What I do like is that you see Michael attempting to make amends with his sister, albeit a huge reversal from the original film.
