"The Devil Always Gets His Due"

After a mysterious "lost" night on their honeymoon, a newlywed couple finds themselves dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. During a film recording intended for posterity, the man begins to observe strange behavior in his wife. At first, he writes it off on nerves, but as the months go by, it becomes clear that the dark changes in her body and mind are attributable to a more sinister cause.

Not that bad.

It seems that people are done with the whole found footage horror genre. To understand it a bit, this film does not have to be filmed that way at all, it hardly adds anything. Yet the film is not very bad. The run-up is a bit long, but the film still manages to deliver a lovely finale. Looked nice. The film is therefore not that inferior to the paranormal and other similar films. I think it is mainly bad timing that gives the film such a poor rating.

Not fresh anymore, but for the enthusiast certainly not the worst of the genre.

2.5 stars.

If, on the whole, a horror film mainly lacks real tension, then it really misses the point. This is unfortunately the case with Devil's Due. Because the (paper-thin) plot becomes clear quite quickly, it lacks mystery and therefore never really becomes scary. It is all far too obvious. Too few (jump)scares and too predictable, which really leaves me with a failing grade.

3/10 (IMDB)

Before the director duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett went to the big cinemas, there was this work, which showed some of their qualities early on. Everyone will (probably) have to start with less money in the beginning before the breakthrough follows and Devil's Due handles that well. The tension is heightened left and right and the actors do a good job, but the tired content takes away a lot of the horror fun. It doesn't help that the atmosphere seems unstable and doesn't show much to continuously demand your attention. As a fan, you have probably already seen almost all the horror ideas and the finale is presented too chaotically to make an impression. Nevertheless, I am a bit surprised by the exceptionally low average and was able to get enough out of it myself for a narrowly unsatisfactory grade.
