No, it didn't make me happy. I also found the terrible acting, lack of tension and the atmosphere that was touted here to be less than great. The opening scene was still somewhat okay, but I soon realized that this was not going to be it for me. Tony Todd was the only bright spot, even though he wasn't really that great...

Still giving part three a chance, although I have little hope for an enjoyable viewing experience.

In the heyday of the horror film, after a hit like Candyman, a sequel would be ready the following year. However, Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh was not released until three years later. In theory, that could mean that they took more time to write a decent and original script. But in practice this is not the case, as evidenced by the fact that in many areas Farewell to the Flesh is little more than a repetition exercise. While the first Candyman still felt unique in its kind, after Farewell to the Flesh you have seen that trick in which Tony Todd suddenly appears behind someone and pushes his hook through a body. Virginia Madsen has been exchanged for Kelly Rowan, who - like most actors in this film - is not blessed with the best acting qualities. Some characters, including her brother, are even very poor in terms of play.

What makes Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh somewhat worthwhile are a few okay sequences and the fact that they delve a little deeper into the backstory of Mr. Candyman. I'm normally not into the backstory for villians, but in the Candyman films it is an interesting aspect of the monster. You have to go through quite a bit of salty stuff for the interesting parts, but having fun here and there is not impossible. Even people who enjoy the "so bad it's fun" can get their money's worth at certain points, especially when a particularly ugly effect pops up near the end.

2 stars.

Candyman is a character who has acquired a lot of significance over the years, including politically, within today's society, but this specific interpretation by director Bill Condon is a bit simpler. In principle, it once again follows a character who has to investigate the famous horror legend, with some short scary moments in between to remind the viewer what genre the film is in. The problem is that the content is hardly interesting and mainly makes a tired impression, making you constantly wait for the sensation. Fortunately, the murders are nice and clumsy and Tony Todd is perfect for his role, but otherwise this sequel makes a dull impression and only evokes 15% of the powerful atmosphere that made the predecessor so special.
