Umoregi plot

The story takes place in a small town close to the mountains. Machi is a high school girl who has yet to find her direction in life. One day, Machi and her friends make up a story that they decide to keep going by taking turns adding new elements to the story. Girl after girl continues the dreamlike story, which unfolds into a "future past", invisible to the protagonists. Meanwhile, things are different for adults. Their "story" consists of the realities of life and their past. The two storylines progress without intersecting. Still, over time, similarities begin to emerge within the two separate stories. One day, a heavy rain storm causes a landslide on the croquet field. The storm reveals a buried forest that has been preserved since the volcano's eruption centuries ago. Slowly but surely, the separate areas of dreams, stories, past, present, and future begin to merge, creating a fantasy world.
