Nice comedy, but tempo-wise a bit too slow by today's standards and James Stewart is a bit too much of a wimpy good guy.

Plot itself is great...and Harvey especially!!

James Stewart makes this movie worth watching! Unfortunately, the other characters were a lot less interesting and the sister was over-acting quite a bit.

I really like the plot invented and I think it's original and fresh for 1950, unfortunately in my view the film does too little with this fact and it depends too much on Stewart.

The invisible character Harvey should have had more screen time!

Here's a remake of it, maybe it made better use of the plot? Although I have my doubts whether Stewart's acting performance is so easy to match.

2.5*

The acting is not always good I must say. James Stewart is charming in the lead role. Remarkable that Josephine Hull (Veta) just won an Oscar. Other times... On the other hand, I did have to laugh regularly, so somehow it worked. Especially how Stewart's character actually gets away with everything.

The film is clearly based on a comedy play. And as a fan I like that. Perhaps a little rest here and there would have been good. Harvey isn't a high-flyer, but it sticks around better than I expected. And more than it actually deserves.
