Apparition was listed on MovieMeter as part of the Amityville series, even though this really has nothing to do with it. Instead, a melodramatic thriller film with a number of horror moments, which managed to surprise me in the first fifteen minutes. The acting of Jody Quigley, Katrina Law and Lili Bordán is above average, it is mainly director Quinn Saunders himself who cannot really make his film excel. The horror moments never manage to be exciting, the cinematography looks rather mossy and the film never really looks atmospheric. The screenplay by Pete Cafaro and Andrew Kayros is what keeps the film going, because despite the poor build-up of tension, the progression of the story genuinely interested me. Quigley's mental progresses and relapses are a bit repetitive, but the dramatic nature of the film works a lot more effectively than the horror side. All in all it's a no-brainer, but certainly not the worst kind.
