"Love is Friendship."
Anjali Sharma (Kajol) and local casanova Rahul Khanna (Shahrukh Khan) are best friends at St. Xavier's College. Anjali thinks things will work out between her and Rahul until Tina Malhotra (Rani Mukherjee) joins their school. Rahul falls head over heels for her, leaving Anjali heartbroken. Anjali decides to leave in the middle of the school year on the pretext that her mother is ill. Rahul and Tina get married, but Tina dies due to complications with the birth of their child. She left letters for her daughter. After several years when the girl has grown up and has read the letters, it becomes clear to her that Rahul actually belongs to Anjali. She wants to bring them together.
