Nostalgic film from my childhood. Like many (and perhaps to the point of annoying) seen countless times. Home alone remains entertaining and fits within the setting of Christmas. Culkin who became a real child star, but fell miserably under the fame and pressure (or simply made bad choices later in life).

Mind blown with this movie. You shouldn't see too much of the acting, although I still think Joe Pesci is fantastic. The jokes and pranks lead to a climax at the end and that remains pure fun. The film in NY does not sacrifice that either, by the way. To make it a bit corny, there is a sweet moral in the film, well, as a child you don't notice that, as adults just a little more. If you want, you can tear the film down to the bone, but let us remember that the goal was a feel-good movie, let's keep it at that, because Home alone succeeds wonderfully, even after 28 years.

“You're not at all worried that something might happen to Kevin?”

“No, for three reasons: A, I'm not that lucky. Two, we use smoke detectors and D, we live on the most boring street in the whole United States of America, where nothing even remotely dangerous will ever happen. period.”

The ultimate Christmas movie. Home Alone has all the elements you expect and want to see in a Christmas movie, but besides that it's also just a damn entertaining movie. And the church scene between Kevin and Marley is still great to watch after all these years. The acting of Culkin, Pesci, Stern, Heard, Blossom and all the other actors is strong and effective, and especially at the end in the burglary scenes Pesci and Stern also show a lot of physical comedic talents. The combination of sentiment, humor, melancholy and some action remains unparalleled when it comes to Christmas movies.

Home Alone appeared exactly 30 years ago. At the time still on the Betamax or the VHS tape. Then the much grayed DVD and the blu ray in 2008 and this year the beautiful 4K version that shows the very best image. The sound is also fine. This will increase your viewing pleasure a bit. My old ranking was 3 stars and it's still not the best Christmas movie of all time, but it's still fun to watch. There are still some things to note, especially from a technical point of view. In the second part, the jokes are like Laurel and Hardy. The steps on a plank it moves and then you get the reaction. That doesn't always look spontaneous. Still, it has enough points that are very nice to see, with the highlight for me being that film. First we're going to scare the pizza farmer and then one of those silly burglars. Nicely done. But the idea concept of Home Alone is of course also funny and original. The boy is much too wise for his age and plays very nicely. This also applies to his trips to the supermarket and the church service where he comes into contact with a so-called killer who eventually plays Santa Claus. The conversations are pleasant and especially before Christmas the ultimate moment to celebrate Christmas with your family. Smoothly that's for sure, but very nicely and originally made. We have to take for granted that the jokes are not all successful, sometimes even faintly set up.
