Nice complex film, with an intriguing story and a very strong atmosphere. Where it is often said that Alison Lohman is disappointing, I actually think she is quite good, and Kevin Bacon is not easy for me. With Colin Firth at a point half way in between. Egoyan's hand is easily recognisable, like all his films I saw, it looks extremely well cared for. And the story is also put together with the complexity that characterizes him.

Excellent film in which a journalist tries to uncover the truth behind the split of a famous TV duo. The film is mainly set in the early 1970s and provides an atmospheric image of the time. The plot with quite a few twists is well put together, although it is a bit complicated at the beginning with the editing. The three protagonists are not only well cast, but also portray their roles well. A narrow 4.0 stars.

A grim and at times quite uncomfortable film. Intrigued as I am by Dean Martin, this quickly made me think of his collaboration with Jerry Lewis (ended in 1956, so one year before the fictional duo in Where the truth lies split up, and also Martin and Lewis gave very successful "telethons", in their case for the fight against muscular dystrophy), but I don't think the similarity goes beyond this starting point. The story develops along several tracks, alternating between Alison Lohman's quest, the social and historical context of the rise and (popularity) fall of the two stars, and the psychology of Vince and Lanny and the tensions in their relationship. . Interesting in every way, nowhere as fantastic as I always hope but still constantly fascinating. Funnily enough, throughout the movie I keep feeling that Firth and Bacon's acting styles don't really fit together without it being disturbing in any way; maybe it's because I keep wondering why Vince is actually British – not just because Firth is, right? (Bizarre detail : from the first time I saw the movie – I'm guessing about eight years ago – I somehow remembered that Bacon climbed on top of Firth instead of the other way around.)

This movie is the weakest work I have seen from "Atom Egoyan". The film is confused in its narrative, although the topic of the film is so labyrinthine that it can stand until the end.

Overall, it is a suitable film for entertainment. The characterization is not good and it seems to be one of those adaptation films where the original source is much better and more attractive than the film. For his fans, this film is influenced by the director of Armenian descent, and his shadow has fallen on the film.
