Gemma leaves her cozy flat in Rome to travel to Sarajevo with her son Pietro. She will attend an exhibition commemorating the war. Photos of Pietro's father Diego are shown at the exhibition. Sixteen years ago, Gemma fled the war-torn city with Pietro, while Diego stayed behind and later died. She makes the journey to mend the difficult relationship with her son, but also to deal with her own past.
