Tokyo after Dark plot

US Sergeant Douglas, stationed in Japan, has killed a man with his own gun. The discussion arises whether the sergeant should be tried under Japanese law, because he claims that the gun went off accidentally. Sergeant Douglas turns out to be a friendly man who is in love with a Japanese woman and enjoys Japanese culture and life. His dilemma is only made worse by the bad advice he receives about his case.
