Tin Seung Yan Gaan plot
The New Underclass in Hong Kong: Immigrants from the People's Republic of China work in the sex industry or in other less coveted jobs. Ah Ying is a 'lady of the Great North', as the derogatory term is for mainland prostitutes. She entered Hong Kong on a visitor visa. In the eyes of the city she does not exist, and in her eyes the city does not exist. She has met three other immigrants: Quin, once a dance teacher, works as an elevator operator in a large restaurant after losing her son and a leg in a car accident. She lives with Ah Jian, a failed criminal who works at a porn store that is on the brink of bankruptcy. Finally, Ah Chun is an introverted and disciplined elevator mechanic whose only amusement is telling silly jokes on radio talk shows.
