Walt Manigan returns to his old neighborhood in Southeast Washington after serving a prison sentence as a changed man. Determined to get his life back on track, he is forced to return to the dilapidated boxing gym of his old mentor Slim, a place he once wanted to leave behind for good. There, he meets the young boxers Quincey, Peanut, and Twin, each trying to overcome their own problems. As Walt is drawn back into a world he had distanced himself from, he discovers that his greatest battle does not take place in the boxing ring.
