Tom Wingo is unhappy with his life. His wife doesn't understand him and he doesn't get along well with his domineering mother. When his sister Sallie attempts suicide, psychiatrist Susan Lowenstein discovers a terrible secret of Tom and Sally's childhood. But the psychiatrist himself is also very unhappy and together they try to glorify each other again.

Reasonable film in which a man visits the psychiatrist of his suicidal sister. Simply a nice (love) drama in which the lead-up to the relationship between the man and the psychiatrist seems a bit unbelievable and the ending is a bit too sappy. This is not the fault of Nick Nolte and Barbra Streisand, because they both deliver two good roles. The best scene is the dinner with Jeroen Krabbe. Just under 3.5 stars.
