"Everything is on the line."
The two cousins Vincent and Anton from New York play with large sums in the stock market, where winning is determined in milliseconds. Their dream is to build a fiber optic connection between Kansas and New Jersey, with which they can earn millions. But nothing comes easy for this couple. Anton is the brain, Vincent the tout. Together they push each other and everyone around them to a breaking point in the unrealistic adventure.

Computer analyst Vincent [Jesse Eisenberg] is convinced that, with the help of his cousin Anton [Alexander Skarsgård], a neurotic but brilliant programmer, he can create a fiber optic connection that is a millisecond faster than all the others. That small difference could make speculators millions, but the connection must be built in a straight line from New York to Kansas City. To do this, Vincent needs a major investor, a contractor and the permission of thousands of landowners. It's a huge task, made more difficult by the need for secrecy and the resentment of Eva Torres [Salma Hayek], Jesse and Anton's former employer, who is furious about their sudden departure and wants to get back at them.
Eisenberg and Skarsgård are excellent in the leads, and there is good supporting work from Michael Mando as the man in charge of the fiber optic line. But under the direction of Kim Nguyen - who also wrote the screenplay - the tone is uneven. You can go in any direction with this theme and these characters, but the result is a failed mishmash of elements from different genres.

Good film in which two cousins want to install a superfast fiber optic connection in order to create an advantage on the stock market. Above all an original and yet also quite captivating story. But in terms of story-technical, perhaps a bit too much is bitten off. The ending itself is nice, but does not really form a good conclusion to the film. Good acting by the entire cast.

Entertaining 'thriller' about laying a fiber optic connection that should make trading even faster and thus rake in millions. However, that turns out to be more difficult than expected and in this film there are all kinds of obstacles that have to be overcome. Yes, that summarizes it well. The Hummingbird Project is a large project with many obstacles just like you encounter in every large project. Some problems are financial or politically tinted others are personal.
I especially thought Alexander Skarsgård was brilliant acting. Eisenberg is not exactly a favorite of mine, but sometimes he comes across as quite strong. Small role also for Heldenberg who comes across as a bit difficult. 
Although I do understand his point of view.
