The Guilt of Janet Ames plot
"Was his kiss a lie? ..."
Janet Ames's husband was killed in action during World War II. Two years after the war ended, the embittered Janet wants to meet the five men who saved her husband by sacrificing herself in an attack with a hand grenade. During the quest, Janet is involved in a traffic accident and is traumatized. Due to this trauma, Janet can no longer walk and is confined to a wheelchair. Smithfield 'Smitty' Cobb, one of the former soldiers rescued by Janet's husband, tries to help her with hypnosis. Smitty is convinced that Janet has a mental problem. During her 'sleep', Smitty wants to talk to Janet about her husband's concerned comrades, so that she can accept his death and also gain more insight into her own traumas. However, Smitty also tells her lies and after Janet can walk again, he starts to feel a pang of conscience.
