The False Madonna plot
Ed Marcey and Tina are scammers. Marcey, who poses as a doctor, helps a sick woman on a train journey. When this woman dies, Tina assumes her identity so that they can obtain a large amount of money. Trouble arises when Tina develops a rapport with Phillip Bellows, the dead woman's young and blind son, and decides not to take the money. However, this arouses suspicion from Grant Arnold, the late wife's lawyer and mentor to her son Phillip.
