Yesterday I went crazy again after seeing it on TV last year. And what surprises me are the somewhat lukewarm responses. I will immediately admit that there might have been something more in it. The film is relatively short, the characters, while interestingly enough, are not particularly fleshed out and some things move quite quickly. He could have been a little longer and a little more in-depth in all directions in terms of trauma, characters and history of Vogel himself.

Nevertheless, I still think it is a more than fine film. Chastain is fine as always, the clashing characters of Worthington and Csokas is also captivating, and the interplay when they catch Vogel and have to feed them, for example. By the way, that Stephan is a great cock and mainly full of himself is clear from the start. The burden of the holocaust that all carry is not brought so much verbatim as in a sad silence.

Great story, great tension, nice but perhaps predictable ending, but in the end a great and entertaining movie for an evening of viewing pleasure. Not top notch, but just a very solid and exciting film.

Watched yesterday. Entertaining and at times exciting film with excellent acting by the ladies. I read in one of the comments that the ending could have been better developed. Agree. Yet not for one moment have I had the feeling of 'what am I actually looking at'. However, the transitions from the present and past did not bother me. Perhaps because I was really 'in' the film. Just watch...

Reasonable and entertaining thriller, but there are a few things wrong with it, as stated by several people here.

The film tries to combine suspense with the question of whether the truth about a failed operation from the Mossad to a Nazi leader in the years after the Second World War should be revealed, but it lacks a good balance. Despite some exciting plot entanglements, the film remains somewhat boring as a thriller, and for example the action to finish Rachel's job is rather implausible.

At the same time, the morally interesting themes do not receive enough attention and would have been more appropriate in film that had placed more emphasis on the drama. The denouement, in which the need for truth is clearly put above the interests of people and nations, takes place in just two conversations and minutes of action, and Rachel's choice (including the contradictory The fact that she still kills the Birkenau butcher in the final battle and thus makes a trial impossible) are also hardly substantiated - a missed opportunity.

I wonder if the original movie does this better. Anyway, The Debt remains interesting enough for a Friday night.
