A strong story, one that seems made to be made into a movie someday. And then Netflix appears to have jumped into the hole, in the most stereotypical way imaginable: 'The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind' seems unimaginative in terms of camerawork, rhythm, acting…not to mention of the cringe-inducing mishmash of languages and the dramatic drama. Ouch.

Yet meritorious: Ejiofor's attention to the mysticism of the landscape (the cyclic structure with the nature spirits that mark life as well as death), the subtle layer of different cultures that can apparently live side by side in Africa, the cascade from globalization to deforestation and therefore actually mortgaging one's own agriculture, and finally the generational conflict in which a father has to let himself be humiliated by the excellence of his son (how painful that is, but also how necessary…) – just to name a few things to sum up.

Nevertheless, overall: mediocre.

2.5*

PS: Did I just see that the poster reveals the finale of the film? Spoiler alert!

Taken from life. It is also nice to experience a small farming village in Malawi, with their daily routines and worse, with the climate calamities and famine; sometimes rescue comes from an unexpected source. Performed without much sentiment and a little bit socially critical (with the old village head who gets a beating after a too critical speech ), but above all a realistic example of an Africa that still has to get by with few resources and common sense. It is sensed that Ejiofor is interested in his distant roots. A successful directorial debut.

Fascinating and true feel-good story, I think I had vaguely read something about it, with a Disney-like structure.

Ejiofor and little Simba have a lot of charisma, which makes you feel a little more compassionate. Amazing how they speak the local languages; even though I'm a layman in that area, it comes across as very believable.
