Set in 1968 on a Spanish colonial island off the west coast of Africa, the story alternates between the 1950s, the last years of Spanish rule, and today. In the 1950s, a man and his brother travel from the snowy Pyrenees to the exotic island where they learn the true lessons of life. In the present day, the man's daughter travels to the island to learn about her father's and her uncle's early years.
