Billy Bob Thornton is perfect for the role of a rebellious and driven farmer in this 'follow your dream' story. I am always charmed by his acting, I always find it done with a lot of charisma and expressiveness. I also like these kind of fairytale satirical stories with an underlying statement and interesting thoughts for contemplation.

A man wants to build a real working rocket in his shed in the middle of nowhere and the government and media are immediately at the door, set up camps on the spot and harass him. It even involves a commission of inquiry and casually discusses legislation, health care, education, culture and social structures.
This seems to me to be about the question of personal freedom and privacy. And what, for example, is permissible in the name of guaranteeing security and controlling the fear of mass-destruction weapons?
Family life and its struggles are also discussed, everyone has their own interests, dreams and desires, expectations and disappointments.
From the time the woman turns around, I sometimes find family life a bit sugary portrayed.

Finally the personal victory without any media attention, cynical. So is the government's denial of the launch and the fake Jay Leno scene afterwards.
Beautifully and spectacularly filmed by the way when the rocket starts and then shoots over the earth's crust instead of into the air!

A good, complete, versatile, entertaining story and an excellent portrayal of it with beautiful recordings. The atmosphere is magical-realistic and black comic, situated in the clay countryside of America. The soundtrack contributes well to this.
Good actors, including the uncredited Bruce Willis as Colonel Doug Masterson.
I really like this one in its genre.

Looks like a Disney movie. Although Thornton is a fine actor and the cast was clearly looking forward to it (except for Bruce Willis, since his name is not even in the credits??), it is still very moralizing. In the US, above all, a family has to sacrifice itself in every way to make the dream of the father figure come true. This goes above and beyond, yes even the kids are taken out of school for a few weeks for the occasion... and towards the end all of Mr. Farmer's problems are very easily wiped off the screen. Well, if life is that simple... Everything lacks realism and it should above all remain feel-good, but the dreamy photography, the passionate acting and the imaginative idea still make this a fairly enjoyable family film, which especially the audience want to make dreams for a while and are dreams realistic? A bit in the same genre I thought October Sky (5*) was a much better work.
