Cardigan (Barrymore) is a lawyer who has secret contacts with mob boss Vanny Powers. When Powers asks him to work as a prosecutor, he makes some drastic changes and dumps his sweetheart June (Twelvetrees) for the daughter of a powerful politician. The problems begin to pile up when Powers is charged with murder.
