Skumtimmen plot

On a gray September day in 1973, on an island just off the coast of Sweden, five-year-old Jens Davidsson runs into a fog and disappears. No trace has ever been found. Twenty years later, his mother Julia receives a call from her father: he has received a package containing one of Jens' sandals that he was wearing the day of the disappearance. With a handful of clues, Julia sets out to investigate with her father. Traces lead back to Nils Kant, a serial killer who fled the island in the 1960s and is said to have died. The compelling quest leads to an unexpected, shocking denouement.

A decent film in which a woman returns to the island where her young son disappeared without a trace 20 years ago. The plot unfolds somewhat unstructured, but the resolution makes up for this somewhat. Filmed with reasonable atmosphere. Certainly not bad, but the film doesn't excel in anything else.

I decided to give this one a try as well, and it wasn't a bad film, but just a bit long-winded. The pace was fairly slow; the last half hour was particularly the most interesting.

The cast certainly didn't do a bad job, and otherwise the film looked pretty good.

Well, not really a must-see, but not super bad either.

A decent Swedish thriller, based on the book *Skumtimmen* by Johan Theorin. The plot and characters are a bit slow to get going and it never really becomes very suspenseful, but the gimmick of the two timelines works properly and everything is visually well-executed. The flashbacks set in 1970s Havana, in particular, are beautifully realized. The plot is ultimately well-constructed and everything is brought to a satisfying conclusion.
