In this cinematographic and pictorial experiment, Austrian director Gustav Deutsch brings 13 iconic canvases by Edward Hopper to life. It tells the story of Shirley, a young woman who guides the viewer through about 40 years of American history. Brief flashes of radio messages provide historical context (from the Great Depression to the Kennedy era and the civil rights movement) as the characters move in accurate cinematic reproductions of the famous paintings.
