Sacamantecas plot

Álava, 19th century. Towards the end of the Third Carlist War, several women are found strangled on the outskirts of Vitoria. Ángela Berrosteguieta, the sister of one of the victims, comes to the city seeking justice, determined to prove that Juan Díaz de Garayo, an illiterate peasant, is responsible for the crimes. Meanwhile, police chief Pío Pinedo must contend with a lack of resources in wartime and pressure from the authorities, who would rather cover up the growing wave of murders.
