At the end of World War II, Marjoline, a beautiful young woman, arrives in Paris. She works as a manicurist in a luxurious beauty salon and marries Daniel, a young man active in the horticultural sector. Marjoline is overjoyed when she receives a modern flat as a gift. In order to furnish it, she goes into debt, despite Daniel's resistance. Her obsession with the material is in stark contrast to her husband's view of a more traditional lifestyle, which jeopardizes their marriage.
