I think it's a very special movie. Beautiful, original, sensitive, fascinating and a film that takes you out of reality for a while. I love watching Japanese movies and this is definitely one of the best I've seen. A 9. 4.5*

The point of this movie is that I couldn't go along with it, at least not on the premise, not even on a metaphorical level and then it quickly ends. Even though the film is very beautifully lit (often with backlight that still feels soft), the acting is subdued and here and there atmospheric pictures of small villages. But the characters fascinated me moderately, which they did and actually happened to them less and less. 2.0*.

A beautiful serene portrait as I like to see Japanese cinema. The premise seems simple, it actually is, because without the verbatim story nothing indicates that Mizuki's husband has died. You would expect that only she sees her dead husband as in The sixth sense, but that is not the case at all. Everyone sees her husband.

I've never experienced the movie that way. I saw a subdued drama between two partners who had lost each other (literally), but are looking for each other again. This on the basis of a journey to which the man has linked his most beautiful memories.

A film with certainly beautiful moments and encounters. There at that waterfall it becomes spiritual or mythological again, but Kurosawa doesn't really go any further there either. A bit of a shame really, but otherwise quite enjoyed this nice quiet film.
