The film portrays a happy family where the son suddenly dies, after which the members are in deep sorrow and each tries to deal with it in their own way. At first this creates a depressed atmosphere and silence, but soon also irritation, because the mother in particular suppresses her sadness and does not want to participate in the constant remembrance by the father. In the end, things turn out well in the family after the mother develops physical complaints and goes to a support group. The film is like this both in terms of plot development – a triptych of undisturbed family happiness, estrangement from each other and finding each other again – and in terms of morals (sadness is better expressed and shared than bottled up by introverted ) little special or surprising, but it is nevertheless a beautiful, fine film: it always ripples on in a pleasant way (both in happy times and in sorrow, because life goes on and people try to act normal) and the sadness is still to sympathize very well; the film reminds me a bit of Close (Film, 2022) in which the restrained aspect also has a major emotional impact.

Realistic portrait of a family before and after a family member dies tragically. The bereaved mourn in their own way, at first separately, which creates distance and misunderstanding, but gradually they find their way back to each other. Petersen fills the film with moments in which the changing relationships subtly become visible, making brilliant but unobtrusive use of camera setups. Beautifully played by the entire cast and with a very moving denouement. One of the best bereavement movies.

A beautiful and sad story of how a close-knit family deals with grief. We see the portrait of a warm family that shares everything with each other. Line tries to get pregnant and undergoes IVF. You notice that everyone is concerned about it, as if it affects everyone personally. Those breakfast moments are fun, birthdays that are truly sung about and celebrated. Also nice is that chauvinistic feeling of raising the Danish flag in the garden or putting the Danish skewers on the table. Not the first time that I have seen this in a film, in Denmark, also Sweden for example, but here in Belgium it is much less traditional. I am a convinced Belgian, but we don't do this either. I don't know what the Dutch people's sense of nationality is like?

And then the tragic moment. As always happens, very unexpected and fast. I was caught speeding myself and didn't realize who it was about - the synopsis mentioned the son, but I didn't read that beforehand. And then you see the closeness of the family crumble. It never becomes sharp or harsh, but subtle. "Forever" is a small, subdued, serene film about grieving. Everyone experiences grief, but experiences it individually. There is little talk about the loss. Excellent acting from the entire cast. The only downside for me was the son-in-law who was just there for bacon and beans, otherwise a nice film!
