Given the subject matter – an investigation by the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission – the film is definitely worth watching. The acting is well done. Especially the interaction between Hendricks (Jamie Bartlett) and Mpondo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) makes for some fascinating scenes. But in spite of a number of raw images, I find it a rather dull whole. It's a pity that Hilary Swank hardly plays a significant role and is, in my opinion, used a bit as an image filler.

Indeed, "A World Apart" is DEFINITELY one of them.

Good film in which a lawyer assists a victim in a truth commission. The film is set in the aftermath of the apartheid regime in South Africa. A fairly compelling story, but the characters are just a little less interestingly developed (despite the good acting). The best scenes take place in court.
