Country star Dusty had a great ideal: to conquer the world with only his voice and a simple guitar. But simplicity is no longer an issue, because Dusty's stage act has turned into a spectacle of effects. Disillusioned, he returns to his family in the countryside, where it all began in silence.

The album Pure Country did a lot better than this film in 1992, but that doesn't mean the film isn't good. On the contrary, I thought it was a pretty strong film that lived up to its title. George Strait's feature debut is one that is very enjoyable to watch and this is due to both his good music and the interesting story that accompanies it. It is not too difficult for Strait and the role he plays is tailor-made for him, making him come across very strong. The beautiful American rural life and the interesting country world are things that can be very different on the one hand, but on the other hand can have many similarities and the combination of these is something that is beautifully highlighted in this film. From start to finish it is very pleasant to watch and listen to and the ending of this feel-good film is beautiful.

Nice film about a country star who goes back to basics and rediscovers himself.
The story is simple, the acting and dialogue are sparse, but in combination with the music it all works reasonably well together. I think a 'Heartland'-like song could have been played as a real ending. 3*
