Judging from the plot description and the reviews posted here, I didn't expect anything from this film. What I got was indeed nothing at all. A story that was completely uninteresting for me, characters that left me completely cold and on top of that, visually I also found this film extremely ugly.

In brief; Of all the films I have seen by this director, this film is at the bottom for me. So quickly forgotten.

The merciless loan shark Gang-Do [Lee Lung-Jin] turns out to have a conscience when the mysterious Mi-Son [Min-soo Jo] forces herself on him and tries to convince him that she is his mother. Gang-Do uses every means to suppress his feelings, but Mi-Son proves to be just as persistent in her attempts to get him to repent. Starts strong with some pleasantly sick confrontations with debtors and Mi-Son makes an impression, but the behavior of the two main characters is difficult to understand and increasingly difficult to swallow.

Special film, but consistently fascinating. Often a bit strange framing, but sometimes very atmospheric. And the ending is even very beautiful. Not a really compelling film (the plot is too strange for that, the same goes for the characters) and the film is more about the content and about showing a kind of fairy tale/parable/Biblical story. So not a film that gets under your skin and doesn't work to really go along with the feelings of the main character and the insight he gains towards the end. But it is an intriguing film with a good pace and moments that stay with the viewer. 3.5*.
