Oylem plot
In the limbo of Yiddishland, two men share fragments of their lives. Mendele grows up in a shtetl at the end of the 19th century. Respect for religious rules, Torah study, celebrations and life in his village determine his daily life. When he discovers socialist ideas in which he sees a new, more modern form of messianism, he throws off the yoke of tradition and embraces freedom. The young Yitshok lives in the ghetto of Vilnius. He overcomes his fears and doubts and refuses to see himself as a victim. Yitshok makes every day and every moment a hymn to hope, a celebration of life.
