Nina feels happily married to Alexandr, a sinology professor. However, their mortgage repayment obligations pose a problem. When she replaces her husband as an interpreter for a visit from a Chinese delegation, Nina gets to know the bank manager Sergey. At her husband's request, she then makes another appointment with Sergey in an attempt to do something about the mortgage problems. It is the beginning of a passionate relationship with an unforeseen result: Nina experiences true love for the first time in her life.
