Nippon Konchûki plot
"She lives by instinct with no sense of right or wrong."
Tome Matsuki was born illegitimately in a lower-class family in 1918. She is mistreated by her stepfather and later leaves her husband after he has fathered a child with the waitress. She departs from the small rural village to the big Tokyo and eventually ends up working in a brothel, where she quickly creates a furore. Yet Tome desperately tries to break out of poverty and prevent her daughter from falling into the same circle of poverty as herself.
