Dusty images of unbridled partying students. Carefree they are, but not completely, because after this bubbly first part of the film, discontents related to a lack of love and affection arise and then the most emotional follows with the realization that sometimes they too came up short. "I was Jacob's best friend, but I, I didn't love him at all..."

Decent Dutch film, debut in the feature film genre, I read, which is successful on several points and in terms of acting, especially of those young people, seemed to me to be successful.

I am generally not a fan of Dutch cinema. When I watch something I limit myself to smaller productions like this. It's nice to see unfamiliar faces or that the characters don't look fake and directed. No one in the City therefore feels natural. That's nice to see compared to all that crap that appears in the cinemas.

The film is also more of an experience than a really compelling story. So at times the film feels a bit out of control, but it makes up for it by going along with that experience. The only thing that really annoyed me is that I couldn't select subtitles. Sometimes the characters speak softly or speak a little under their breath. Then it is difficult to understand. I've had several times when I had to rewind just to listen carefully to what one person is saying to the other. This kind of annoyance also takes me out of the movie. Just subtitle that shit, even if it's Dutch.

For the rest a nice production that feels genuine, but just lacks that punch to really convince.

Impressive film by documentary maker Michiel van Erp, beautifully played by the largely unknown cast and beautifully portrayed. Plot and characters know how to captivate from the start and the beautiful electronic soundtrack completes the whole in style. The director's documentary background comes in handy here, and the film benefits from some nice observations and fine visual details. Such as the short silent inserts in which characters and extras look straight into the camera.
