Unfortunately, after hundreds of years, racial segregation and hatred are still a hot topic in America. Books and films about it appeal to me enormously, especially because I cannot comprehend why people dare to declare themselves superior as a motive for their disgusting attitude towards fellow human beings.

This is again strongly expressed in this true story about the founding of a KKK museum less than a quarter of a century ago, and the developments that this entails. It is once again a gripping film with sharp character drawings. I really like the contrast between the relaxed attitude of the unmarried mother ("white trash") and the excited positions on the other side of the dividing line.

A very nice film, which thematically shows similarities with The Best of Enemies (2019).

The true story of Mike Burden [Garrett Hedlund], who, under the influence of Tom Griffin [Tom Wilkinson], becomes an active member of the KKK. But under the influence of his new girlfriend Judy [Andrea Riseborough], he begins to question his beliefs. When Griffin opens a KKK museum, it leads to a confrontation with the black community led by Pastor Kennedy [Forest Whitaker], which turns out to be a key moment with major consequences for everyone involved.

Well-intentioned historical drama with an excellent acting cast is not entirely convincing. The real Mike indicates during the credits that his reformation was a gradual process, but in this reconstruction he turns his back on his old friends very quickly.

Good story. No new theme or innovative approach.

KKK versus Black or bad versus good. Although also makes good mistakes. There is a mediator who wants to bring the two closer together. Failed of course, but the cover Mike makes is very romanticized.

For the sake of resemblance, they partially shave Kennedy's head. Not so good. Mike also have them

forced to turn Redneck. Did not work. If you disregard that, both played well.

I really liked the camera work and editing. It sucked you into the movie.

The story drags on and barely leads to a climax. People hold back.

Although Burden is set in the 90s, racism is still there in the US (and where not). Making films about it doesn't open people's eyes. They shout 'Oh how bad', but I doubt she really does anything. Think of it as a dramatized documentary.

But shouldn't these films be made? Yes fine. Repetition is the message advertising.
