Just saw it on Movie1. A controversial theme in which Anne's behavior is based on her past and perhaps also her profession. While it didn't seem like abuse at first glance, it certainly was. In the end, Gustav pays for this with death. Of course, Gustav also has a past that has prevented him from getting a true connection with himself. Precisely for this reason it was of course very wrong what Anne was doing. Her manipulative behavior later in the film betrayed that she was very self-conscious, but unfortunately she was driven by lust and underlying traumatic experiences. Very sad, but a realistic scenario.

All in all, a very captivating film that excites from start to finish.
A 4.

Danish drama film about the affair between a mature woman and her underage stepson.....

Realistic cinematography, a lot of blue-grey outside, warmer tones inside. Alternating outdoor and indoor scenes. Beautiful images of swimming in the lake with the reflection in the water. The music used is minimalistic, but beautiful and sensitive. The cast does a good job, they play their roles with conviction.

Stepson Gustav comes back to live with his father, the relationship with his own father is difficult, but on the other hand he gets on well with his stepmother Anne. It leads to an affair with major consequences.......

Dronningen means 'the Queen', which is translated into English as 'Queen of Hearts', the queen of hearts. Well, you can definitely call Anne a queen! This complex role of Anne is excellently portrayed by Trine Dyrholm. This career woman has everything in order, or so it seems, but she still has a weak spot...... In her work as a lawyer she guides abused young people and that makes her feel Gustav better than his father. But the motivation of Anne to do exactly what she agitates against in her work, we can only guess.....

The film was more dramatic and realistic than I expected. You gradually feel that this cannot possibly end well and the film is heading for an inevitable jet-black end ......

It's been a long time since I've been so blown away by a movie. How do the Danes do that? That during the credits you are left with a very big 'what the fuck' question mark on the couch, with days of food for thought. What if the roles (read the genders) were reversed? Why was Anne (a phenomenal role by Tryne Dyrholm) so harsh at the end? Is there any fault and if so from whom? Movies that make people think are often the best. In that respect, and for many other reasons, Dronningen/Queen of hearts is a highlight.
