Nickel Boys plot
African-American Elwood Curtis grows up in the 1960s and is falsely accused of committing a crime and is sent to a juvenile institution. His only refuge in this hellish place is Turner, with whom he befriends. Together they try to cope with the horrors of the school that is run by a corrupt board.

This film is quite unique, also the way of shooting completely in first person. It is a bit striking that this film has been nominated for Best Film (because of the way of filming) and Best Script (which is not very special). Visually stunning at times with beautiful use of color and lighting (and there is no nomination for that. And the tight image format helped a lot with this. But that way of filming is also limiting and after an hour I believed it and the film managed to captivate me less and less. Furthermore, the decor is okay, the acting is reasonable (but remains a bit superficial everywhere) and the pace is also quite nice. Despite the fact that the film did not really manage to captivate anymore, this thing lasts 140 minutes and this was not really a long dragon. Because of some beautiful shots (just the first shot and the first movement of that camera that immediately intrigues because you are still surprised) just enough. 3.0*.

Reasonable film about a young man who ends up in a youth institution through no fault of his own. A special film because of the pov element (literally from the point of view of the two main characters). This produces a number of beautiful shots, but the story and the form do not quite match (you are constantly reminded that you are watching a film). A beautiful picture of the times, but still not quite 3.5 stars because the film is also quite long-winded.
