After an unexpected phone call, Laura and her brother Elliot rush home. Their mother Lilly turns out to be seriously ill. The young attractive stranger Ted lives in her house. Laura and Elliot haven't been home for a long time and their mother's illness makes them realize what has gone wrong in their lives. Lilly was a control ill woman but has softened. Before she dies, she hopes she can pass on something to her children. However, they feel resentment because their dreams have not come true. In addition, they try to find out what Ted has to do with their mother.
