Miss Juneteenth plot
Turquoise is raising her daughter Kai on her own, no easy task now that the teen is showing rebellious tendencies. The woman was once proclaimed Miss Juneteenth, although the title turned out to be more of an empty victory than a promise of a better life. Now Turquoise is determined to change that by getting Kai ready for the annual beauty pageant. Kai, however, is not interested in this.
