Memórias do Cárcere plot
The film is based on the diaries Graciliano Ramos, who was imprisoned as an alleged communist during the Vargas regime in Brazil in the 1930s. In his diaries he describes the corrupt legal system and the relations between prisoners and with the guards. The prison is a metaphor for the Brazilian community. Thus, each prisoner and guard represents a different social class.
