Meisie plot

In a small village on the edge of the Kalahari desert lives Meisie, a young girl with an astonishing aptitude for mathematics. However, her father prevents her from going to school and forces her to look after the goats. She therefore practices her sums with stones in the desert sand. When an inspiring and kind new teacher, Esmeralda September, arrives and discovers that Meisie has such a talent, she wants nothing more than to send Meisie to school too. Her father refuses, however, and the modern Esmeralda comes face to face with the local tradition.
